1. Latest updates and forthcoming sessions

Happy New Year everyone!

We hope that you had a good rest and are ready for new adventures in 2018 at the Ark! Our office reopened today with welcoming summery weather which we hope will last!

We can see that not everyone was away during Christmas break. Trappers carried on their trapping activities. Baiters, whether they were regular volunteers or line owners, baited a good bunch of lines, which will undoubtedly be a big help with keeping us on track for this baiting round! As a reminder all the remaining lines can be baited now.

Lastly, bird monitoring teams kept busy either looking for new robin territories or keeping a close eye on our breeding kokāko. More detailed information to come in the next weeks...

Thanks to all of you who helped keep the Ark ticking along!

Also a special mention to Don Morrison and Annalily Van den Broeke who respectively took care of the chopped rabbit for trappers (Don) and hosted and looked after our mealworms, plus helped keep the Ark storage tidy (Annalily).

This week we will resume our volunteer sessions, with a session on Thursday, the 11th of January, 8:30am at the ranger station, followed by another session on Saturday, the 13th of January, 8:30am at the ranger station.

During both sessions, we will do baiting in the southern blocks (AWN and AWS). Both blocks can be challenging, so I've kept some moderate lines in K block as well.

Please let me know if you are coming to either of these sessions. Also note that if you make a last minute decision or have an unexpected change of plans it's best that you leave a message on our phone 09 810 7014 rather than email me.

Welcome to Mark Foster, Lachlan Grant, Haena Kim, Henry Merton, Sam Reindler and Nathaniel Wilson who joined the Ark in December.

Also thank you to our sausage cooks: Brian Chandler and Kay Wight for taking care of the BBQ after the weekend sessions.
