1. Latest and forthcoming sessions

It has been a very busy week in the bush, helped by settled and dry weather. Many lines were done as the map below testifies. Thank you to all of you, regular volunteers and line owners for your work!

Wasps are still very active at the moment, so if you do field work, please be careful!

On Saturday, a group of five new volunteers were trained. We are looking forward to seeing them back to practice what they've learned!

We are doing our best to help new comers slot into the Ark community smoothly and adopt our latest ways of working as quickly as possible. Therefore induction sessions have been set in place recently and new volunteers are asked to attend one of these training sessions. We usually hold these induction sessions twice per month, on a Saturday morning. Next one will be on Saturday 21st April.

This week we will carry on with our baiting in the northern blocks. We have postponed the baiting of the L lines which end in the paddocks on Whatitiri track because there are still many wasp nests there.

There will be a volunteer session on Thursday the 12th of April, starting at 8:30am at the ranger station. The session will be followed by a scone party for Nicolas and Aiko's departures.

There will be another session on Saturday the 14th of April, starting at 8:30am at the ranger station. We will have a sausage sizzle when we come back!

Please let me know if you are coming to any of these sessions. Also please note that if you make a last minute decision or have an unexpected change of plans it's best that you leave a message on our phone 09 810 7014 rather than email me.

2. Reminder: Search & Rescue talk

Don't miss our upcoming evening at the Waitākere Golf Club with Search & Rescue. If you are an active Ark volunteer, doing regular field work, this is a not to be missed event! People who have recently joined the Ark are also warmly invited.

Date: Thursday 26th April

Time: 7pm

Venue: Waitākere Golf Club

Please RSVP by Friday the 20th of April.

3. Ark volunteer rep - voting now open

The Ark has three volunteer representatives, currently Karen Colgan, Chris Chadwick and Oliver Glampe.

These are people that you can contact if you have any questions or concerns, or anything that you would like to discuss with a fellow volunteer.

Also, these volunteer representatives are part of the Ark management committee. The management committee is comprised of Council staff, Forest and Bird representatives (and the Ark representatives) and meets every second month, usually on a Wednesday morning.

Volunteer reps participate in field meetings to help make decisions about field related activities.

We sought for a new person to replace Chris, who is retiring from the position. Three people stepped forward. Please read their bios below and submit your vote.

You can vote on line here: https://goo.gl/forms/t19Pa4Dr4YTd6mLg2

If you are not familiar with online forms, you can contact us by phone or email.

Voting closes on the 30th of April.

4. Help needed to bag bait

We have a small team of people who help bag up the loose bait. We could do with a few more people.

What does it involve? Coming to the Ark to scoop loose bait into plastic bags and then taping the bags closed.

How long does it take? 1 hour at a time is fine, but some people stay longer.

Training and personal protection gear is provided.

Please contact us if you can help - or have any questions.
