Have you passed your Safe Kauri Certification quiz?

Remember – you are required to do so before doing fieldwork.

The training consists of:

1. Reading the SOP document: https://tinyurl.com/yapvqgof

2. Viewing a short video which illustrates points described in the SOP: https://youtu.be/-vRYxqs0x8Q

3. Answering an online quiz of 20 questions (you can re sit as many times as needed and all information is contained in the SOP): https://goo.gl/forms/EjNVx5V45n2aLgBG2

4. Upon correctly answering 18 out of 20 questions you will be sent a Safe Kauri Certificate

1. Latest events and forthcoming sessions

We made big progress in the Nihotupu block and we are not far away from finishing re aligning the stations with the Ark's bait station network. Thank you to all of you who braved the thick cutty grass, kiekie and supple jack nets! It is a good opportunity to practice our bush skills, including the use of radios and compass reading, as one group was mislead and went north instead of south and another group untaped their own track ... Luckily it all ended well!

This week, there will be 2 volunteer sessions, including an induction session for new volunteers on Saturday morning. Both sessions will start at 8:30am at the ranger station.

On Thursday, the 6th of September, we will carry on in N block.

On Saturday, the 8th of September, the session will likely be line maintenance. Also I will run an induction session for new comers (same meeting place and time). There will be a sausage sizzle at the end of the session.

Please let me know if you are coming to either of these sessions. Also please note that if you make a last minute decision (after 5pm) or have an unexpected change of plans it's best that you leave a message on our phone 09 810 7014 rather than email me.

Please do not forget that any Ark field worker must comply with the latest Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) around kauri and pass the Ark Safe Kauri certification quiz (see box above).

Please note that first time volunteers don't need to take the certification quiz, however they are encouraged to read the SOP.

2. Authorised vehicle card

The past few weeks, we've been encouraging you to display an Ark brochure on your car's dashboard when parked on a public road while you do field work. This is to identify us to any CAN officers who are patrolling.

This was a temporary measure, for the Auckland Council have provided us now with official cards to display in your car instead of the Ark's brochure. These cards are kept in the office, so don't forget to ask for one next time you come to the Ark or contact us if you need us to keep one aside for you.

Please note that these Authorised vehicle cards are not the same thing as the individual ID cards you need to carry with you when you do field work in the bush for the Ark (or have a picture of it with you).

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us!

3. Miscellaneous - Job opportunity: Hibiscus and Bays Pest Free Coordinator

There is a pest free coordinator job opportunity. More information and contact details here.
