1. Latest and forthcoming sessions

We are getting very close to the end of the baiting round now! We need only a couple more volunteer sessions to finish the CG blocks, which will complete this baiting round. Line owners, please bait your lines as soon as you can. A rat monitoring will be held two weeks after the end of the baiting round.

We'll carry on the baiting this week, but it is also time for our bi monthly seed collection. The Department of Conservation, in partnership with Landcare Research and the University of Canterbury, are monitoring the production of fruit and seed by New Zealand forest species in a wide range of sites and forest types across the country. The Ark is one of 57 sites in the national seedfall monitoring network.

A key objective of the monitoring is to improve our understanding of the relationship between climate, mast seeding and pest population densities (more...).

Seed collection is not as physically challenging as line baiting and can be done in small groups of people. Training will be provided on the day if you are not experienced.

There will be a volunteer session this Thursday, the 15th of June, meeting at 8:30am at the ranger station. There will be another session on Saturday, the 17th of June, starting at 8:45am at the ranger station.

Please let me know if you are coming to either of these sessions and if you have a preferred activity. Also please note that if you make a last minute decision or have an unexpected change of plans it's best that you leave a message on our phone 09 810 7014.

As a reminder, there is a Matariki planting held tomorrow at Pae O te Rangi farm, next to the Ark, starting 10am.
