Have you passed your Safe Kauri Certification quiz?

Remember – you are required to do so before doing fieldwork.

The training consists of:

1. Reading the SOP document: https://tinyurl.com/yapvqgof

2. Viewing a short video which illustrates points described in the SOP: https://youtu.be/-vRYxqs0x8Q

3. Answering an online quiz of 20 questions (you can re sit as many times as needed and all information is contained in the SOP): https://goo.gl/forms/EjNVx5V45n2aLgBG2

4. Upon correctly answering 18 out of 20 questions you will be sent a Safe Kauri Certificate

1. Latest events and forthcoming sessions

There will be a volunteer session on Thursday, the 13th of December, starting at 8:30am at the ranger station. We hope that the weather will be dry enough to enable us to finish the T block.

There will be another session on Saturday, 15th of December, starting at 8:30am at the ranger station. It will be our last Saturday session of the year.

On Saturday, I will also run an induction session for new comers (same meeting place and time). There will be a sausage sizzle after the field work for everybody!

Let me know if you are coming to either of these sessions. Also please note that if you make a last minute decision (after 5pm) or have an unexpected change of plans it's best that you leave a message on our phone 09 810 7014 rather than email me.

Please note that first time volunteers don't need to take the certification quiz, however they are encouraged to read the SOP.

2. Personal ID cards and Ark in the Park authorised vehicle cards

A friendly reminder from our current SOP:

"AiP workers will be issued with ID cards to carry with them to show to any compliance officers encountered. These will be able to be used as evidence of AiP workers authorisation to be within rāhui, CAN and Public Safety and Nuisance Bylaw areas. In order to be recognised as being authorised to be accessing closed or restricted areas AiP workers are to wear hi vis vests, printed with ‘Forest and Bird volunteer’

When parking a vehicle on public roads identify your vehicle as belonging/being in use by an AiP worker by placing an “AiP authorised vehicle” card on your vehicle dashboard. These official cards are provided by the AiP office and you are recommended to keep one with you as your personal card."

Note: an Ark brochure is no longer acceptable as they are widely available.

3. Bait to bag: help needed!

We have loose bait which needs to be bagged. Please contact me if you can help.
